Animals, both real and imagined, have long been a favourite subject in art. Part of their beauty lies in their versatility as subjects: they are often used as symbols, but they can also be majestic creative muses in their own right. We look at creatures big and small, from wild animals with Franz Marc, Salvador Dali and Durer, to farm animals with Picasso and Tracey English, and finally at bugs and butterflies with Louise Bourgeois and Lois Ehlert.
